The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri has issued a warning about scams involving individuals impersonating representatives from their office. These scammers have been known to provide fake badge numbers and claim that the victim's phone number was found in the contacts list of a rescued human trafficking victim. They often request funds through mobile payment apps.

Scammers employ various tactics to appear credible, including using actual names of federal prosecutors and addresses of federal offices. They may also spoof phone numbers to make it seem as though they are calling from a government agency like the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

It is important to note that "the U.S. Attorney’s Office will never ask you to purchase a gift card or give out a credit card number."

Victims of such scam calls are urged to report incidents via https://www.ic3.gov/.
