Saint Louis University (SLU) has conferred emeritus status on President Fred Pestello, recognizing his leadership and contributions to the university. The Board of Trustees emphasized Pestello's values-based leadership, highlighting achievements such as record enrollment, fundraising efforts, construction projects, expanded research initiatives, and community partnerships in Midtown St. Louis.
In addition to this honor, SLU's Student Government Association (SGA) has established a new scholarship named the Drs. Fred and Fran Pestello Legacy of Leadership Award. This scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate student who exemplifies SLU’s Catholic, Jesuit mission through education, ethics, service, academic excellence, and community engagement in St. Louis.
Outgoing SGA president Reueline Arulanandam stated: “The creation of this award is a tribute to the years Drs. Pestello have given to students and their dedication to shared governance. It is intentionally designed to remember their incredible legacy and honor students who are making their own. With this award, we honor them and hope to encourage many students to come to take after their example of leadership.”
