The City of St. Louis has announced new resources to aid those affected by the tornado on May 16. These include a new donation drop-off location, the opening of a Disaster Assistance Center, and ongoing relief efforts at the Urban League headquarters.
A new drop-off point for donations is now available at The Monarch, located at 3940 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. This site replaces previous locations that are no longer operational. Donations such as building supplies, non-perishable food, and personal care items can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to noon.
The City of St. Louis has also opened a Disaster Assistance Center at Chaifetz Arena in partnership with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and Saint Louis University. "The Disaster Assistance Center will take place June 9-12 (Monday-Thursday), June 16-18 (Monday-Wednesday), and June 23-26 (Monday-Thursday), inside the Chaifetz Arena," offering resources such as vaccines, emotional support, mental health care, legal assistance, and job programs. Insurance specialists will be present to assist residents with their insurance policies.
Free parking is provided at the Olive-Compton parking garage with mobility assistance available for those who need it. Uber is offering two round-trip rides up to $50 each way to the center through June 30 or until funding runs out.
Meanwhile, the Urban League continues its relief efforts at their headquarters on Kingshighway with another large-scale distribution event scheduled for Saturday, June 7 from noon to 3 p.m. They are requesting donations of tarps, tools, canned goods, general supplies like bottled water and batteries, as well as infant and hygiene products.
Volunteers are needed for these efforts; coordination is being managed by United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center along with community organizations and local government entities.
Donations can also be made to the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund established in collaboration with the St. Louis Community Foundation for immediate relief and long-term rebuilding efforts or to the United Way of Greater St. Louis Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund supporting residents across the bi-state region.
Impacted businesses are encouraged to fill out an assessment form via the St. Louis Development Corporation for further assistance.
For more information on resources or how to contribute or volunteer, individuals can visit the City's website or follow updates on social media channels.
