The City of St. Louis is set to open a Disaster Assistance Center on Monday, June 9, in collaboration with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and Saint Louis University. The center aims to provide tornado-affected residents with resources and support for recovery and long-term assistance.

In addition to this initiative, the Urban League will host a resource distribution event today, Saturday, June 7. This event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at their headquarters on Kingshighway at Dr. Martin Luther King Dr., offering food, toiletries, and other essential items.

"The Urban League is requesting the following items for their ongoing relief efforts," including tarps, caulk guns, hand saws, canned goods like fruits and vegetables, bottled water, batteries, flashlights, infant formula, diapers, toothpaste among others.

The Disaster Assistance Center will operate from June 9-12 (Monday-Thursday), June 16-18 (Monday-Wednesday), and June 23-26 (Monday-Thursday) inside Chaifetz Arena at 1 South Compton Avenue. It will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., providing services such as vaccines, emotional support, mental health care, legal assistance, job programs and more.

"Insurance consumer specialists from the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance will assist residents with understanding their insurance policies and navigating the claim process." Free parking is available at Olive-Compton parking garage with mobility assistance provided for those who need it.

Volunteers are being coordinated by United Way of Greater St. Louis Volunteer Center in conjunction with community organizations and local government agencies to determine where help is most needed.

Donations can be made to the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund through the St. Louis Community Foundation or to the United Way of Greater St. Louis Severe Storm/Tornado Relief Fund which supports affected residents across the bi-state region along with disaster response nonprofits.

Businesses impacted by the storm can use an assessment form set up by the St. Louis Development Corporation to communicate their needs for recovery assistance.
