Last night, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution to honor Christopher "Kit" Bond, former United States Senator and Missouri Governor. The resolution was introduced by Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt, both Republicans from Missouri. Bond passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 86.
Senator Josh Hawley remarked, "Kit Bond was a patriot. He led a life defined by dedication to his state and country, and he inspired countless people through his friendship and mentorship—including myself." He expressed gratitude towards his colleagues in the Senate for recognizing Bond's service.
Senator Eric Schmitt also shared his thoughts: "I was pleased to see the Senate unanimously pass our resolution honoring the life and legacy of Legendary Missouri Senator Christopher ‘Kit’ Bond. Kit was a force in the Show Me State leading with his trademark sense of humor and dedication to making our state the best in the nation. It is only right the U.S. Senate recognize my close friend and mentor on his tremendous career and public service to our nation."
Bond served as both the 47th and 49th Governor of Missouri between 1973-1977 and 1981-1985 respectively. He later represented Missouri in the United States Senate for four terms from 1987 until 2011, during which he supported conservative values, focused on infrastructure development, advocated for farmers in Missouri, and worked on strengthening national defense.
