U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has addressed a letter to several major insurance companies, urging them to fulfill their obligations to policyholders affected by recent severe storms in Eastern Missouri. The storms, which struck on May 16, caused significant damage and left thousands without power.

Senator Hawley emphasized the importance of insurance companies honoring their commitments during this crisis. "Your policyholders have paid you faithfully, often for years. Now is the time for you to honor the faith your customers placed in you," he stated. He called for immediate and comprehensive assistance for those navigating the claims process.

The senator's appeal follows a subcommittee hearing that uncovered widespread issues within the insurance industry, including delays and underpayments to policyholders. Hawley has initiated a bipartisan investigation into these practices.

In his letter specifically addressed to Jon Farney, President and CEO of State Farm Mutual, Senator Hawley highlighted the severity of the storm's impact: approximately 5,000 buildings were damaged, nearly 80,000 people lost power, and there were seven confirmed fatalities.

As Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Disaster Management, Hawley expressed his expectation that insurance companies would act promptly and fairly in assisting affected communities. "It is my full expectation that you will honor your commitments," he wrote.

The senator's actions aim to ensure that victims receive due support as they work towards recovery and rebuilding efforts across Missouri.
