In a recent Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley secured a commitment from Jim O’Neill to review the safety of the chemical abortion drug mifepristone if confirmed as Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services. This follows a new study indicating that one in ten women who use the drug experience adverse health effects.

O’Neill acknowledged the necessity of reviewing the study for women's health and safety across the country. "The Secretary [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.] has pledged to do a safety review of mifepristone, and I strongly support that view," he stated.

Senator Hawley has been actively advocating for women's health issues, including introducing legislation to reinstate safeguards on mifepristone removed by the Biden Administration and urging the Department of Justice to reassess its stance in Missouri’s related litigation.
