A Missouri Lottery player recently experienced an unexpected windfall at a QuikTrip in Kansas City. While stopping for gas and picking up a soda, the player was offered two "Extreme Green" Scratchers tickets that had been left unpurchased by another customer.
"The clerk said he had two 'Extreme Green' tickets that a previous customer ended up not buying and asked if I wanted those," the winner recounted.
After heading back to his car, the player scratched off the first ticket, winning $5. He expressed satisfaction with this small win, saying, "I won $5 on the first ticket and was feeling pretty happy. I won half my money back." However, it was the second ticket that brought a life-changing surprise: "Then I scratched the second ticket and won $100,000! I couldn’t believe my luck!"
The "Extreme Green" game has proven lucrative for many since its launch at the end of March. Players have claimed over $4.2 million in prizes so far. Yet there are still more opportunities to win big; more than $9.8 million in prizes remain unclaimed, including two additional top prizes of $100,000 and seven prizes of $20,000.
In fiscal year 2024, Jackson County players collectively won over $109.8 million from Missouri Lottery games. Additionally, retailers received upwards of $9.8 million in commissions and bonuses from these sales. The proceeds from lottery sales also supported education programs within the county to the tune of more than $22 million.
