Saint Louis University (SLU) will host the fifth annual Regional Summit on May 21, sponsored by the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP). The event is organized by SLU's Interprofessional Education Program and the Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Anthony Breitbach, Ph.D., a professor at SLU and chair of the ASAHP Interprofessional Committee, initiated the Regional Summits. He stated, "ASAHP's institutional membership model gives us the unique opportunity to create academic-industry connections at the local level." Breitbach emphasized that these summits help in forming national-level recommendations for improving workforce readiness through collaboration.
The learning model used in these summits was developed with Debra Lohe, Ph.D., associate provost for teaching and learning. This model aims to connect academic knowledge with real-world applications by allowing clinicians to express their needs. This approach helps academic institutions identify areas for improvement in health professions training programs.
The summit will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of SLU's Allied Health Professions Building. It will feature discussions between academia and clinical stakeholders on enhancing health professionals' education for better workforce readiness. The regional discussions will conclude with a virtual session involving all six regional Hub participants.
