U.S. Senator Josh Hawley has once again led efforts to address ongoing issues with mail service in the St. Louis region. He, along with other Missouri Congressional members, sent a letter to USPS Inspector General Tammy Hull requesting an audit of the area's mail network. This action renews a request made nearly a year ago, which was initially directed towards the Kansas City region instead.

“Reliable mail service is essential, and these ongoing failures are unacceptable,” said Senator Hawley. He emphasized the importance of a specific audit for St. Louis facilities to restore trust in USPS operations.

The letter was co-signed by Senator Eric Schmitt, along with Congress members Ann Wagner, Robert Onder, Jason Smith, Sam Graves, and Eric Burlison. It highlights continued disruptions in mail service within St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and the City of St. Louis. The delegation requests the audit to address mail delivery delays and the mishandling of packages, which have left some residents without mail for extended periods. Essential deliveries like prescriptions and Social Security checks have also been affected.

The letter calls for a response from the USPS Office of Inspector General by April 15, 2025, with a plan to improve service in the region and a timeline for the audit.

Senator Hawley has been vocal in his advocacy for reliable mail delivery, particularly in rural areas, and has been critical of USPS leadership's past handling of service proposals.

The full letter can be read in its complete form.
