Before the legislative spring break, the Missouri House of Representatives passed HB 567, a bill designed to reverse most aspects of Proposition A. The bill received approval from 96 legislators and will now proceed to the Senate for consideration. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) expressed its support for HB 567 and plans to encourage Senate members to pass it.
HB 567 aims to remove several provisions in Proposition A, including paid sick leave and the Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustments. Additionally, it proposes delaying the scheduled minimum wage increase by two years.
Recently, the Missouri Supreme Court heard oral arguments related to NFIB's case against Proposition A. The ruling from the court is expected soon.
The NFIB has called for action, urging individuals to contact their legislators and advocate for a "YES" vote on HB 567 in order to eliminate what they consider harmful provisions in Proposition A.
In other news, NFIB announced that its Small Business Day event will take place on April 23, 2025, in Jefferson City. This event offers an opportunity for small business owners to engage with lawmakers and peers.
