Members of the Saint Louis University (SLU) community participated in a unique event called Golf and Give, an SSE Innovation Challenge aimed at benefiting Billiken Bounty. The event took place on February 25-26, 2025, where participants played miniature golf on a course made from shelf-stable grocery items.
The challenge was organized by SLU's School of Science and Engineering along with the Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship. A total of fifteen teams signed up to participate, representing various student organizations from SLU. Over 200 members of the SLU community joined in playing the course.
Participating student organizations included AirCRAFT Lab, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), Chemistry Club, Engineers Without Borders, Entrepreneurship Ambassadors, Flying Billikens Flight Team, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Society of Black Engineers, Parks Racing FSAE, Rocket Propulsion Lab, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and Women in Aviation.
Each team was tasked with creating a mini-golf hole that creatively represented their organization using donation items. Participants voted for their favorite designs. Parks Racing won the top prize of $1,000 while the Society of Women Engineers secured second place with $500.
Billiken Bounty is located in the Center for Global Citizenship at SLU and serves as a resource for students facing food insecurity. It operates through a referral system offering a variety of grocery items and healthy foods.
