Drivers in Jefferson County should be aware of upcoming changes to traffic patterns on I-55. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will begin shifting southbound I-55 traffic onto newly constructed median pavement from north of Central Avenue to south of the I-55/US 67 interchange. This shift is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, and the transition will be completed by 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24.

This change will facilitate the demolition of the existing southbound I-55 pavement and bridges over Central Avenue, 3rd Street, and US 67. MoDOT notes that all work is contingent upon favorable weather conditions.

Additionally, there will be a closure of the southbound US 67 loop ramp to southbound I-55 for six months as part of the project to demolish and replace the bridge over US 67. During this time, drivers on southbound US 67 will be detoured onto southbound US 61 leading to the I-55 interchange at Exit 170, where they can continue onto southbound I-55. Detours will be clearly marked.

For further details about current and future detours as well as project updates, motorists are encouraged to visit MoDOT's website dedicated to Interstate 55 Corridor Upgrades in Jefferson County. Real-time traffic information is available via MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map online.
