A project aimed at improving the interchange at Boone County Route AC (Grindstone Parkway) and U.S. Route 63 in Columbia has been awarded and is set to commence soon, according to a recent announcement from Jefferson City, Missouri. The initiative seeks to address congestion issues, enhance safety for all road users, and improve accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians.

The planned improvements include redesigned on- and off-ramps for northbound U.S. Route 63 traffic, realignment of Lenoir Street, widening and realigning Grindstone Parkway/New Haven Road east of U.S. Route 63, as well as the addition of a traffic signal at the newly aligned Lenoir Street and New Haven Road.

The construction will be phased to ensure that all routes and ramps remain open during the process. However, roadways will occasionally narrow to one lane in each direction, with changing traffic patterns as work progresses. Motorists are advised to stay alert and heed all traffic control devices.

Initial construction activities are expected to begin in early February with off-road work that will not affect drivers. Roadway work impacting traffic is anticipated to start in mid-March and continue through July 2026.

Further details about the interchange improvements and construction schedule can be found on MoDOT's website: https://www.modot.org/63ACInterchange. Visitors can also sign up for project-specific updates via email.

MoDOT urges motorists to cooperate by buckling up, putting phones down, obeying all traffic signs, slowing down, and moving over in work zones. Extra caution is advised through these areas to avoid distractions.

For ongoing traffic updates or other transportation-related inquiries, individuals can call 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636) or visit MoDOT's Traveler Information Map.
