The Chariton County Route D bridge over Mussel Fork Creek in Missouri, initially scheduled to close on February 3, will now commence its replacement project on February 17. Despite this delay, the completion of the bridge is still anticipated by June 2025.

Motorists are advised to find alternative routes during construction. The existing bridge, constructed in 1947, accommodates around 191 vehicles daily.

Michael Marriott, Project Director at the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), explained that “The Northwest Bridge Bundle is a Design-Build project which will replace or rehabilitate 31 poor-condition bridges in north central Missouri, and this bridge is number 14.” The design-build contract was awarded to the Capital – Horner & Shifrin team by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in December 2023.

This design-build method allows one contracting team to both design and construct the highway improvements under a single contract. MoDOT sets out project goals, budget, and schedule while the contractor team executes the work. This approach often results in time and cost savings.

Details about all bridges included can be found on the Northwest Bridge Bundle web page. Weather conditions may affect schedules.

MoDOT encourages drivers to adhere to safety practices such as buckling up, avoiding phone use while driving, slowing down, and moving over in work zones. Drivers can stay informed about work zones via traveler.modot.org or sign up for eUpdates for direct notifications. Additional information is available through MoDOT’s helpline or social media channels.
