A significant road improvement project on Interstate 35 and U.S. Route 69 in Clinton County, Missouri, is set to begin in 2025. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) awarded the contract to Michels Road & Stone in November 2024 as part of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.

The project's scope includes removing and replacing the concrete overlay on I-35 and widening and resurfacing Route 69. MoDOT is currently collaborating with the contractor to finalize the schedule for this multi-year undertaking.

For Route 69, scheduled work in 2025 involves widening lanes to 12 feet, adding a two-foot shoulder, resurfacing the roadway, and updating guardrails to meet current standards. During this period, traffic will be reduced to one lane.

On I-35, northbound lanes will close while traffic shifts to southbound lanes between Shoal Creek and Route 116. The existing concrete overlay on northbound lanes will be removed and replaced before restoring two-lane traffic by winter.

In 2026, attention will shift to southbound I-35. Traffic will move to northbound lanes as construction progresses on the southbound side between Shoal Creek and Route 116. After completion, normal traffic flow will resume.

All construction activities are required by contract to conclude by September 1, 2026.

MoDOT plans to release detailed staging and scheduling information once determined. Additional details can be found at their website: https://www.modot.org/interstate-35-and-us-route-69-concrete-overlay-clinton-daviess-and-dekalb.
