Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has concluded his legal proceedings against China, seeking accountability for the global spread of COVID-19. Bailey stated, "Today, we hauled China into court to hold them accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world." Missouri remains the only state to file such a lawsuit against the Chinese Communist Party.

The case revolves around accusations that China contributed to and worsened the pandemic by obstructing medical equipment production and trade. The state is demanding $25 billion in damages. Bailey emphasized confidence in their case, noting, "Today was a great day: the judge was engaged in our arguments and asked detailed questions."

The court acknowledged that Bailey presented "an abundance of uncontroverted evidence" regarding China's role in harming Missourians through the pandemic. The judge indicated a potential ruling in favor of Missouri.

Despite being sued in 2020, China has not participated in court proceedings, increasing the likelihood of a default judgment for Missouri. A decision from the court is anticipated soon.

Bailey referenced an earlier victory with an Eighth Circuit order from 2024 supporting their position against China.
