U.S. Senator Josh Hawley has introduced a new legislative proposal known as "Travis's Law" in memory of 12-year-old Travis Wolfe from Missouri, who was killed in a car accident involving an illegal alien. The law aims to prevent similar incidents by ensuring the detention of criminal illegal aliens.
Travis Wolfe lost his life when Endrina Bracho, an illegal immigrant driving against traffic at excessive speed, collided with his vehicle. Bracho faced six charges, including first-degree involuntary manslaughter and driving without a valid license. Despite these charges, she was released after her bond was reduced and subsequently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Senator Hawley criticized the current administration's immigration policies stating, "Under President Biden’s open border, Missouri’s 12-year-old Travis Wolfe was killed by an illegal alien, who was then released from jail." He added that his amendment would ensure that individuals like Bracho are detained if they commit motor vehicle crimes or victimize minors.
The proposed amendment is part of the broader Laken Riley Act, which mandates ICE to detain illegal aliens involved in burglary and theft-related offenses. The Senate recently moved forward with this act with strong support, voting 82-10.
Hawley's amendment seeks to extend protections under the Laken Riley Act by targeting those who commit crimes against minors or use vehicles in their offenses. This legislative effort is named after both Travis Wolfe and Laken Riley—a Georgia nursing student who would have turned 23 had she not been murdered by an illegal immigrant previously arrested twice.
