U.S. Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri has voiced strong opposition to a proposed Utah-only version of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) reportedly being considered in the House of Representatives. This proposal is rumored to be part of a year-end spending bill.

Senator Hawley expressed his concerns on social media, stating, "I’m told House Republicans are considering sneaking a stripped-down version of RECA – covering only part of Utah and nothing else – into the CR. This would be an incredible betrayal to the hundreds of thousands of good people poisoned by their government."

He further commented, "Shoving a Utah-only version of RECA into the CR not only betrays working people across the nation, it will jeopardize passage of the CR."

The Senate has previously passed Senator Hawley's legislation twice with significant bipartisan support, 69-30. His proposal aims to reauthorize and expand RECA compensation beyond Utah to include other affected states such as Missouri and New Mexico.
