Congresswoman Cori Bush, representing Missouri’s 1st District since 2021, recently shared a series of statements on social media addressing issues of clemency and healthcare rights. Her tweets, posted on December 4, 2024, reflect her ongoing advocacy for vulnerable populations.
In a tweet from December 4, 2024, Bush stated, "Last month, I was proud to join @RepPressley in urging @POTUS to grant clemency for the elderly, the chronically ill, those on death row, & others." This highlights her efforts with Representative Ayanna Pressley to encourage President Biden to consider clemency for specific groups.
Continuing on the subject of presidential pardons in another post from the same day, she expressed concern about the backlog of petitions by saying "On the topic of the presidential power to pardon… there is a growing backlog of thousands of clemency petitions. @POTUS must #GrantClemency more broadly and reunite families before the end of his term."
Bush also addressed healthcare rights for transgender individuals. On December 4, 2024, she noted her participation with the Equality Caucus regarding a Supreme Court case: "In September, I joined the @EqualityCaucus in urging SCOTUS to protect trans people’s right to essential healthcare. As oral arguments in U.S. v. Skrmetti begin today, I call on the Court to reject Tennessee’s cruel ban on medically necessary care."
