Saint Louis University (SLU) has announced that one of its students, Grace Almgren, has been named a finalist for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Almgren will be teaching in Spain as part of the program. Additionally, Anuj Gandhi from SLU has been designated as an alternate for a Research/Study Award through the Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Grant.
The Fulbright Program is recognized as the flagship international educational exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government. It aims to foster mutual understanding between people in the United States and other countries. The program collaborates with over 160 countries worldwide and provides opportunities for graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals to pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.
Almgren is pursuing a major in biomedical engineering with minors in mathematics and Spanish. Her role as an English Teaching Assistant involves assisting teaching staff at various educational levels for up to 16 hours weekly, along with two additional hours dedicated to planning and coordination meetings. Her responsibilities include assistant-teaching subjects like social studies, science and technology, art, physical education, and English language. She will also direct conversation groups and lead special programs such as Global Classrooms (Model UN) and Speak Truth to Power (STTP), while actively engaging with her host community.
Gandhi applied for the Fulbright-Nehru Student Research Grant which allows recipients to undertake individually designed research projects in India. As a psychology major, Gandhi proposed an independent study focusing on globalization-based acculturation's effects on mental health and treatment attitudes among Indian youth.
