The upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris promise to bring a wave of international competition following the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Paralympics, set to take place in Paris, will feature athletes from around the globe competing in various sports.
Among those representing Team USA is Sarah Adam, an assistant professor at Saint Louis University and a trailblazer in wheelchair rugby. Adam is noted for being the first woman named to the U.S. Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby Team. Her journey began with her international debut at the Americas Championship in 2022, where she helped secure a gold medal for her team. She continued her success by winning silver at the world championships later that year and contributed to the team's gold medal victory at the 2023 Parapan American Games.
Adam's participation marks a significant milestone as she became the first American woman to win gold in wheelchair rugby at the Parapan American Games. Since wheelchair rugby's introduction to the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000, only five women have competed in this sport at such a level.
The Paris Paralympics will be historic as it marks the first time these Summer Games are held in Paris. The event will showcase various sports including badminton, taekwondo, canoe/kayak, wheelchair basketball, equestrian events, boccia, wheelchair tennis, and many others.
For viewers interested in following these events from home, all competitions from Paris can be streamed on Peacock for U.S. audiences. Additionally, live coverage will be available on NBC, CNBC, and USA Network. Fans can also keep up with updates through the official Paralympics YouTube channel and the International Paralympic Committee website.
