The Saint Louis Art Museum is set to launch a new series of free programs, Festive Fridays, starting November 22 and running weekly through December 27. The initiative will feature concerts, tours, gallery activities, and art-making sessions throughout the museum during afternoons and evenings.
Festive Fridays will collaborate with several local nonprofit performing groups such as the Bach Society of Saint Louis, Black Tulip Chorale, Confluence Chamber Orchestra, Early Music Missouri, the Saint Louis Wind Symphony, St. Louis Classical Guitar, St. Louis Irish Arts, Town and Country Symphony Orchestra, Vox Una Youth Chorale, and music ensembles from Washington University in St. Louis.
Visitors can also participate in an ornament art-making station and enjoy winter-themed drinks at a cash bar every Friday evening in Sculpture Hall. Additionally, SLAM curators will offer brief Seasonal Spotlight talks focusing on winter-themed artworks each week. A special matinee showing of “The Wiz” is scheduled for November 29.
All Festive Friday programs are open to the public without tickets or reservations. These events are supported by the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
Returning this year are two popular annual traditions at SLAM: Winter Celebrations on December 14-15 and Kwanzaa on December 28. Winter Celebrations offer community-centered festivities inspired by global holiday traditions with performances and family art activities. Highlights include Indian dance by Radhanika Dance School, excerpts from “The Nutcracker” by Dance Center of Kirkwood, music by Gateway Music Outreach Community Youth Orchestra, Mexican dance by Alma de Mexico, story time with the Saint Louis Public Library, and a snow globe ball pit.
The Kwanzaa Celebration theme this year is “Abakobwa ni Abanyembaraga: Limitless Power and Potential,” which translates to “girls are powerful people” in Kinyarwanda. This event honors women athletes' resilience at the Olympics with self-guided tours, an art-making activity, and a performance in The Farrell Auditorium. It is presented in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Saint Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter.
