A man from St. Louis has admitted to possessing firearms and drugs following a police pursuit. Perry A. McCoy, 33, pleaded guilty to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.
On October 24, 2023, officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the 6100 block of Sherry Avenue to execute a court-approved search. Before the search commenced, McCoy arrived in a red Dodge Charger, entered the residence briefly, and then left. Officers observed McCoy engage in a hand-to-hand transaction at a nearby gas station before attempting to stop his vehicle.
McCoy fled the scene, driving over spike strips set by police before making an evasive U-turn only to collide with another vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma. He attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by police after discarding methamphetamine found in his fanny pack.
Further investigation revealed three Glock pistols and additional drugs within McCoy's car. Authorities recovered 16.10 grams of cocaine base, 2.33 grams of methamphetamine, and 47.53 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
McCoy is due for sentencing on January 15, 2025. The firearm charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 15 years imprisonment while the drug charge could result in up to 20 years.
The case is being handled by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Jones prosecuting.
