U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has joined forces with U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) to reintroduce the Warehouse Worker Protection Act. This bill aims to safeguard warehouse workers by banning hazardous work speed quotas that result in high injury rates. The legislation also grants new enforcement powers to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and includes an exemption for small businesses.
"Corporations too often prioritize profit over their workers’ safety and well-being, treating them like cogs in a machine. It has to stop. This legislation combats the warehouse industry’s worst practices while ensuring corporations do right by their employees in treating them with the dignity they deserve," said Senator Hawley.
"The Warehouse Worker Protection Act is about protecting the health and dignity of workers from the scourge of corporate greed at Amazon and other large companies," stated Senator Markey. "This movement is strong and growing, and we will not rest until warehouse workers know when they clock in that they will return home unharmed."
The bill also has support from Senators Tina Smith (D-Minn.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa). With Senator Hawley's backing, it now enjoys bipartisan momentum.
Senator Hawley has a history of advocating for American workers, including supporting rail workers seeking fair sick leave deals, fighting to retain jobs within the U.S., and protecting United States Postal Service employees. More details on his past efforts can be found on his website.
