ST. LOUIS – Downtown St. Louis will receive $150 million in new investment by TierPoint, a leading provider of secure connected IT platform solutions. The nine-figure investment will transform a building in the 2300 block of Locust Street into an enterprise-grade data center and is another sign of momentum in the heart of the St. Louis metro.

“This major planned investment is a direct response to the exceedingly strong demand we’re seeing for data center services,” said TierPoint Chairman and CEO Jerry Kent. “It also demonstrates our commitment to the region and faith in Downtown St. Louis.”

"TierPoint's decision to invest so heavily in Downtown St. Louis is a strong vote of confidence in our plans for the future," said Mayor Tishaura O. Jones. "We continue to build a Downtown that serves as the cultural hub of the St. Louis region, and I'm grateful to TierPoint for their investment in the bright future ahead."

Adding to Recent Investment Downtown

TierPoint’s new data center adds to the growing amount of investment and development in Downtown St. Louis. CITY PARK, The Victor (formerly the Butler Brothers Building), Union Station, the Brickline Greenway, the Jefferson Arms Hotel, and several other major projects are currently under development or have opened recently.

“This $150 million investment by TierPoint demonstrates their continued commitment to Downtown St. Louis and the momentum building in the core of our metro,” said Jason Hall, CEO of Greater St. Louis, Inc. “With this and so many other investments in Downtown — as well as the Saint Louis Zoo’s WildCare Park in North St. Louis County, The Magic House, and Easterseals Midwest — Jerry Kent has shown that he continues to be one of St. Louis’ leading civic champions.”

In addition to new larger-scale developments, the public-private partnership between GSL and the City of St. Louis has helped several small businesses develop new spaces and expand storefronts through the Downtown Retail Incentive Program, bringing vibrancy and activity at street level.

“We know that revitalizing Downtown to make it a safe, vibrant, and beautiful neighborhood at the heart of our metro will take time. We also know that it will take a new way of thinking that diversifies the types of businesses and residential offerings here,” said Kurt Weigle, GSL’s Chief Downtown Officer. “This major investment by TierPoint is a great example of how we need to rethink space to meet our future needs.”

Historic Building, Building for the Future

TierPoint’s new data center will be located at 2300 Locust Street, a 135,800 square foot building that is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first phase of TierPoint’s investment will build out 22,600 square feet of data center space, supporting up to 80 construction jobs in process. Near-term investment plans call for 5 Megawatts (MW) power capacity scalable up to 20 MW.

“We welcome TierPoint’s expansion in Downtown St. Louis and look forward to its plans to grow even more in years to come,” said Mark Birk, President of Ameren Missouri.
