U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp sentenced Carmain Milton, 50, to 27 years in prison for his involvement in three carjackings in St. Louis in 2021, one of which resulted in the death of a 72-year-old man.

Milton's criminal activities included stealing a woman's Toyota Camry, robbing two victims at gunpoint in a parking lot, and fatally injuring a man during a carjacking on North Boyle Avenue. The victims described Milton as having what appeared to be a handgun during the attacks.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cassandra Wiemken highlighted Milton's history of violent behavior, stating that his actions were the result of 30 years of criminal conduct.

The daughters of the victim who lost his life in the carjacking expressed the impact of their father's death, describing him as a devoted grandfather with a successful career in the chemical manufacturing industry. They also emphasized the fear that the crime instilled in the community, stating, "It could happen to anyone."

Milton pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him in January, including two counts of carjacking and one count of carjacking resulting in death. The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Cassandra Wiemken prosecuting the case.
