The University of Missouri's groundbreaking initiative, MizzouForward, continues to make significant progress with a recent $5 million investment in student success initiatives. President Mun Choi expressed pride in the momentum built by MizzouForward, stating, "We are proud of the momentum built with MizzouForward, and we’re excited to see it continue."
The latest investment will support 75 new student success projects, including a diagnostic medical ultrasound laboratory, flight simulator training equipment for cadets in the Air Force ROTC program, and a Research Matching for Student Success application. John Middleton, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Missouri, highlighted the importance of investing in students, stating, "We are investing in our students and enhancing their experiences on campus."
The success of Mizzou students is evident in their record-breaking retention and graduation rates, as well as their post-graduation career outcomes. In 2023, Mizzou students achieved outstanding career outcomes, leading to the university being recognized as the 7th Best Value among flagship universities by U.S. News & World Report and 13th Best among all flagships by Time Magazine.
Matthew Martens, interim provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, commended the success of the MizzouForward recruitment initiative, emphasizing the university's commitment to bringing world-class researchers to campus. He stated, "We are bringing world-class researchers to campus to join the strong faculty who are already here."
The University of Missouri's focus on research excellence is evident through the MizzouForward initiative, which has led to the hiring of nearly 70 new faculty members, nearing the halfway mark of the original goal of 150. The initiative has also attracted faculty members with existing federally funded projects, contributing to research productivity and external grant awards totaling more than $102 million.
Investments in faculty and staff excellence, student success, and research infrastructure are key components of MizzouForward, with support for merit increases, retention, and training grants for undergraduate research fellowships. The university is also implementing new technology and facilities to enhance research capabilities and academic advising.
