The Regulatory Sandbox Act, also known as HB 1960, is making progress in the Missouri legislature after being passed by the House earlier this year. Sponsored by Representative Alex Riley, the bill aims to foster new business ideas by creating a regulatory sandbox where entrepreneurs and small businesses can thrive.

Representative Alex Riley, the sponsor of the bill, emphasized the importance of the Regulatory Sandbox Act in removing barriers for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Riley stated, "The Regulatory Sandbox Act would remove barriers of entry for entrepreneurs and small businesses."

Heidi Geisbuhler Sutherland, director of legislative affairs for the Missouri Chamber, highlighted the significance of the legislation, saying, “Missouri is an up-and-comer in the technology sector, and this bill will encourage innovators in the state.”

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, are among the supporters of the Regulatory Sandbox Act, recognizing the opportunities it presents for new business development.

The bill proposes the creation of a Regulatory Relief Office that would review company applications to waive certain state regulations hindering the development of products or services for up to two years. Several other states, including Utah, Arizona, and Kentucky, have already implemented similar programs aimed at fostering innovation across various industries.

With the Regulatory Sandbox Act gaining traction in the Missouri legislature, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential impact it could have on promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in the state.
