A Sikeston, Missouri man, Milton Napoleon Porter, 41, has been sentenced to serve 200 months in prison for being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Clark handed down the sentence after Porter pleaded guilty to the offense and acknowledged his prohibited status as a gun possessor due to his multiple felony convictions.

According to court documents, Porter was apprehended by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety after a reported vehicle break-in incident on East Kathleen Street last July. Porter attempted to flee from the scene but was captured after a brief foot pursuit during which he discarded a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol. A subsequent criminal background check revealed Porter's extensive criminal history, including 13 felony convictions, notably for domestic assault offenses.

Following his incarceration, Porter will serve a five-year supervised release period. The prosecution in this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Koester, with the investigation conducted by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and illegal gun possession by fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities. The program focuses on strategies such as building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and assessing outcomes.
