The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry is advocating for a significant modification to the state's Fast Track program aimed at enabling more adults to pursue higher education and advanced job training opportunities.

Championed by the Missouri Chamber, the Fast Track program was enacted in 2019 to address workforce needs by incentivizing adults to seek certificates, degrees, or apprenticeships in high-demand job fields. The proposed modification, Senate Bill 1056, sponsored by Sen. Rusty Black, seeks to broaden eligibility for the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant.

In support of the changes, Kara Corches, the vice president of governmental affairs for the Missouri Chamber, highlighted the success of the program and emphasized its focus on crucial sectors such as healthcare, business accounting, computer science, and education. Corches stated, "Health care is obviously a huge need for the state, so it’s great to see the utilization in that area." Additionally, she noted the program's inclusivity towards apprenticeships, stating, "Beyond the certificates or degrees, this program is also applicable to apprenticeships, which we’re very supportive of, so individuals can earn as they learn."

The proposed modifications to the Fast Track program have garnered support from various organizations, including the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, Missouri Community College Association, Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri, and the Missouri Ambulance Association. The legislative process for the modification is underway through different avenues, with bills like HB 2278 and HB 1569 incorporating the changes and progressing through the legislative channels.

Individuals interested in obtaining more information about the Fast Track program and its eligibility requirements are encouraged to visit the official website or contact Kara Corches at kcorches@mochamber.com or (573) 634-3511.
