University of Missouri President Mun Choi has announced the appointment of Chad Higgins as the new chief engagement officer for the UM System and vice chancellor for extension and engagement for MU, effective March 1, 2024. Higgins, who has been serving in an interim capacity since January 2023, was praised by UM Board of Curators Chair Robin Wenneker, stating, "Over the course of our national search, it became clear Chad was the right person for the role."

Higgins, who previously served as associate vice chancellor, has a wealth of experience in academia and program management, including roles at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Louisiana State University, and other institutions. University of Missouri President Mun Choi expressed confidence in Higgins, stating, "He is a proven and dedicated leader who will work with elected officials, industry leaders, and all Missourians to improve agriculture, health, education, and economic development."

In his new role, Higgins will provide leadership for continuing education programs across the state and university-wide engagement, working closely with leaders at all four system universities. He will also play a key role in advancing the land-grant mission of the university to address Missouri's 21st-century challenges and meet the evolving needs of its residents.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity, Higgins said, "I am deeply appreciative and extremely excited about the opportunity to lead extension and engagement and improve the lives of more Missourians." He emphasized the university's commitment to addressing statewide challenges and transforming lives through research-based educational programs.

The university's investment in agriculture innovation and education for Missouri's rural communities and extension services across the state continues to grow. Recent initiatives include funding for various facilities and programs aimed at supporting the state's agricultural sector and enhancing educational opportunities for Missourians.

Higgins's appointment signifies a continued focus on community engagement and the advancement of education and outreach efforts to benefit the people of Missouri.
