A man from St. Louis County has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for attempting to bribe postal workers in exchange for keys to mail collection boxes. Dwaundre K. Valley, 21, of Bridgeton, pleaded guilty to bribery of a public official after offering postal carriers money for access to the boxes.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Clow highlighted the seriousness of Valley's actions, stating that they undermine the public's sense of security and confidence in the postal service. Clow pointed out that such crimes contribute to the rise in mail theft, which is often used for fraudulent activities.
Ruth M. Mendonça, Inspector in Charge of the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, emphasized the commitment to investigating individuals who try to compromise the integrity of the U.S. Mail and its employees. She stated, "This sentencing is a clear indication that our investigative efforts will not cease until those responsible for such criminal acts are brought to justice."
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service conducted the investigations, with assistance from a U.S. Marshals Service task force that included the St. Louis County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Clow handled the prosecution of the case.
