The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education paid $69.3 million in salaries in 2021, 0.4 percent more than the previous year, according to the Missouri Accountability Portal.

On average, the employer spent $24,341 on individual employees in 2021, 5.3 percent less than in 2020.

The national median hourly wage is $19.14, according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to the OECD, the average yearly wage in the US is more than $60,000.

When calculating average compensation, only employees categorized as full time were included.
