In St. Louis, leaders have celebrated the completion of the 7th Street project, which connects Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village to America’s Center and Washington Avenue. The project features new protected bicycle and pedestrian lanes, trees, lighting, and repaved streets.

“This project is yet another example of how public-private partnership is driving positive momentum in Downtown St. Louis,” said Kurt Weigle, Chief Downtown Officer for Greater St. Louis, Inc.

Mayor Cara Spencer emphasized the importance of creating spaces that encourage people to enjoy their surroundings. “The downtowns that people flood to are not the ones with the widest roads that let you get from A to B the fastest,” she stated.

The initiative involved collaboration between city officials and regional business and civic organizations. Bill DeWitt III, President of the St. Louis Cardinals, highlighted the project’s impact on public safety and its role in enhancing downtown’s appeal.

Kurt Weigle noted that this development is part of broader efforts to revitalize downtown through initiatives like the Downtown Entertainment District and various events designed to increase street-level activity.

The project also connects with Brickline Greenway at Market Street, further encouraging foot traffic and economic activity in downtown St. Louis.

“The more activity we have at street level, the safer, more vibrant, and more welcoming Downtown becomes,” added Weigle.
