The City of St. Louis has introduced a new interactive map and web page named Friendly Streets, aimed at providing residents with accessible information on the estimated costs, timelines, and features of ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects totaling over $300 million.
“The work that is being done now and over the next few years will be transformational for St. Louisans and everyone who visits our City,” stated Mayor Tishaura O. Jones. “The Friendly Streets web page and interactive map will make it easy for residents to know the what, where, and when of these massive infrastructure investments.”
Thanks to contributions from the Biden-Harris administration, Great Rivers Greenway, Bi-State Development, The Missouri Department of Transportation, and City staff, St. Louis will experience significant investment in its streets, sidewalks, bridges, and trails between 2024 and 2027. This includes redesigning and repaving more than 30 miles of arterial roadways such as Kingshighway, Grand, Union, and Jefferson; constructing the 20th Street Cycle Track; developing the Tower Grove Connector; building the Brickline Greenway; among other projects.
The web page also details Mayor Jones’ key priorities in enhancing the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of the City’s streets and surrounding infrastructure for all users—whether they drive a car, walk, ride a bike, take public transit or use a mobility aid.
“As we rebuild our City’s transportation infrastructure with this massive overhaul of streets, sidewalks and trails,” said Mayor Jones. “We want to make St. Louis more pedestrian-friendly, bike-friendly, disability-friendly, driver-friendly—and even neighborhood-friendly. In other words,” she continued,”our streets should accomplish more than just facilitating car travel. They should be people-friendly.”
