St. Louis CITY SC will face Chicago Fire FC in the Round of 16 of the U.S. Open Cup at SeatGeek Stadium, according to an April 28 announcement.

The match is significant as it continues St. Louis’s long-standing tradition in the U.S. Open Cup, a tournament where local teams have won ten championships over more than a century.

Every St. Louis CITY SC U.S. Open Cup match this season will be streamed live on CBS Sports Plus and Paramount+. English radio coverage will be provided by KYKY Y98.1 FM with Joey Zanaboni and Dale Schilly, while Spanish commentary can be heard on KXOK 102.9 FM with Santiago Beltran and Hector Vega.

St. Louis has a storied history in the competition, dating back to its first title in 1920 when Ben Millers defeated Fore River Rovers for the championship. Other local champions include St. Louis Scullins Steel (1922), Stix, Baer & Fuller F.C., Central Breweries, Simpkins-Ford, Kutis SC, and Busch Seniors.

In their most recent outing last Saturday, CITY SC lost 3-2 at home against San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer play; Sergio Córdova scored his first goal for the club while Marcel Hartel notched his third goal of the season and picked up his first assist alongside Chris Durkin and Simon Becher.

To reach this stage of the tournament, St. Louis defeated FC Tulsa 4-0 on April 15 in the Round of 32 with goals from Marcel Hartel, Sangbin Jeong, Mykhi Joyner, and Tomás Ostrák—several players also recorded their first career assists or goals in cup play during that match.

Chicago Fire began their own cup run by beating Detroit City FC 2-1 away from home thanks to two goals from Jason Shokalook; they currently sit third in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference after recently defeating Sporting Kansas City by five goals to nil.
