St. Louis CITY SC lost 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes on April 26 at Energizer Park in a close Major League Soccer match. Despite outshooting San Jose throughout the game, St. Louis was unable to secure a win.

The result is significant for both teams as it affects their positions in the league and provides key performances for individual players. The match saw several lead changes and strong attacking play from both sides.

San Jose took an early lead in the eighth minute with Preston Judd scoring from inside the box. St. Louis responded after halftime with two quick goals: Sergio Córdova scored his first goal for CITY SC in the 52nd minute, followed by Marcel Hartel’s third goal of the season just one minute later, assisted by Simon Becher.

Timo Werner was decisive for San Jose, converting a penalty kick in the 69th minute and adding another goal in the 83rd minute to secure victory for his team. St. Louis finished with more total shots (17) compared to San Jose’s ten but could not overcome Werner’s contributions.

In addition to Córdova’s milestone goal, Hartel also recorded his first assist of the season while Becher tallied his second assist this year. Several players received cautions during a competitive contest that featured multiple substitutions and tactical adjustments by both coaches.

Looking ahead, St. Louis will travel to face Chicago Fire on April 29 in U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 action before playing Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on May 3.
