Sporting Kansas City lost 3-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on April 18. The match saw Sporting Kansas City fall to a record of one win, six losses, and one draw, while the Whitecaps maintained their position as Supporters’ Shield leaders with seven wins from eight matches.
The loss comes after Sporting Kansas City’s elimination from the U.S. Open Cup earlier in the week. Head coach Raphael Wicky made several changes to his lineup for this game, giving a debut to Homegrown midfielder Cielo Tschantret and a first professional start to Kwaku Agyabeng, who was selected in the 2026 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Other changes included Ethan Bartlow, Manu Garcia, and Calvin Harris returning to the starting eleven.
Vancouver took an early lead in the 13th minute when Emmanuel Sabbi scored following sustained pressure. The home team doubled their advantage ten minutes later through Bruno Caicedo after capitalizing on a turnover deep in Sporting’s half. In the 28th minute, Sabbi assisted Thomas Muller for Vancouver’s third goal with a cross that was headed into goal.
Despite some chances for Sporting Kansas City—most notably substitute Ian James having a shot blocked by Tristan Blackmon—the visitors were unable to score. Vancouver also came close several more times, hitting the crossbar twice before halftime.
Sporting Kansas City will look to recover as they finish their three-game road stretch next weekend against Chicago Fire at Soldier Field on Saturday, April 25. The match is scheduled for kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Central Time and will be available on Apple TV as well as local radio.
