Sporting Kansas City II earned its first victory of the season on April 20, defeating Whitecaps FC 2 by a score of 3-2 at Victory Field. The match saw Sporting KC II come from behind twice before securing the win with a late goal in stoppage time.

The result marks head coach Lee Tschantret’s first professional win since taking over ahead of the 2026 campaign. All three positive results for Sporting KC II this season have involved comebacks.

Vancouver opened scoring early in the second half when Liam Mackenzie headed home a corner kick. Sporting KC II responded through Missael Rodriguez, who equalized in the 71st minute after missing an earlier penalty. Vancouver retook the lead minutes later with Trevor Wright scoring off another corner, but Zamir Loyo Reynaga brought SKC II level again just before regulation ended, netting his first professional goal after being set up by Daniel Russo.

In added time, tensions rose as Ty Haas was shoved near SKC II’s technical area and Mackenzie received a yellow card for unsporting conduct. The decisive moment came in the seventh minute of stoppage time when Kashan Hines scored his first professional goal following an assist from Carter Derksen, giving Sporting KC II all three points.

Both teams’ goalkeepers made key saves throughout the contest. Vancouver’s Sam Rogers stopped an early one-on-one attempt and denied Rodriguez’s penalty shot, while Jacob Molinaro kept SKC II within reach with several crucial stops.

Looking ahead, Sporting Kansas City II will face Houston Dynamo 2 at Victory Field on Sunday, April 26 at 7 p.m., with tickets available online and streaming through OneFootball.
