Saint Louis University recently hosted a symposium on artificial intelligence and national security. The event aimed to educate the next generation about AI’s role in national security, bringing together industry experts, government leaders, and researchers.
This conference was the second of its kind organized by SLU’s Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence. The first conference in 2023 concentrated on social media and national security. Attendees explored how various disciplines intersect with artificial intelligence and national security.
A keynote presentation was delivered by Robert Rahmer, director of the Office of Analysis Research at Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA). He emphasized that “spies need nerds” and highlighted the numerous opportunities available for those interested in intelligence work.
The symposium included panel discussions on topics such as AI, modern analytical tradecraft, and AI in higher education.
The Midwest Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence (MW-IC CAE) at Saint Louis University sponsored the event. Established in 2022 with a grant from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, MW-IC CAE is focused on preparing students for careers within the 18 U.S. intelligence agencies. It supports developing STEM curricula related to intelligence and provides training opportunities for students aiming to enter this field.
