The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) has unanimously adopted U.S. Senator Josh Hawley’s (R-Mo.) amendment, requiring Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe to submit all information related to the July 13 assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump. HSGAC Chairman Gary Peters (D-Mich.) also committed to voting on related legislation in committee next week.

“Given the way that Secret Service and DHS have stonewalled this committee […] I just think it’s incumbent upon us to say we want this information,” Senator Hawley stated, urging his colleagues’ support for his legislation. He added, “We’re one step closer to the truth,” following the passage of his amendment.

Senator Hawley originally filed his amendment in July immediately after the failed assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pa. As part of his ongoing investigation into the incident, he unveiled a comprehensive whistleblower report earlier this week, detailing alleged failures by the Secret Service and the Biden-Harris Department of Homeland Security in protecting former President Trump.
