United Fitness Partners, a Planet Fitness franchisee group operating nearly 20 clubs in the Kansas City area, announced on Apr. 24 a partnership with The Victory Project and Sporting KC to host a 5K run this spring. The event, called the Victory Run x Planet Fitness 5K, is scheduled for May 9 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Participants will receive a medal, t-shirt, and custom bib as part of their registration.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds to support The Victory Project’s mission of improving the lives of children with cancer and providing inclusive soccer opportunities for youth with disabilities or limited financial resources. Proceeds from donations and registrations will go toward these efforts.
The race also aims to provide unique experiences for children fighting cancer by giving them an opportunity to be Gameday Honorees at Sporting Kansas City matches. “Through the support of community partners like Planet Fitness, The Victory Project and Sporting KC have had the privilege of honoring over 250 gameday honorees,” said Chioma Atanmo, Senior Director at The Victory Project. “The Victory Run is more than a 5K, it’s a chance to rally our community around a shared purpose, expand our reach, and continue delivering meaningful experiences to the kids we serve.”
In preparation for the event, Planet Fitness has developed a free four-week training plan tailored specifically for non-runners interested in participating in their first 5K. Members can sign up online or at any Planet Fitness club in Kansas City or surrounding areas.
United Fitness Partners operates more than 190 clubs across fourteen states as part of its national presence as one of the largest Planet Fitness franchisees. Founded in Dover, New Hampshire in 1992, Planet Fitness has grown into one of the world’s largest fitness center operators by number of members and locations.
Established by Sporting Kansas City in 2013, The Victory Project works through events and initiatives dedicated to supporting children battling cancer and offering special opportunities for kids with disabilities.
