A northeast Missouri man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in federal prison after being caught twice with firearms and illegal drugs while on supervised release. Darek A. Wilson, 40, of Kahoka, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey to 153 months in prison.

Wilson pleaded guilty in April to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, on July 29, 2024, a U.S. Probation Officer visited Wilson’s home and observed suspected methamphetamine in his bedroom. The officer also found a Glock handgun, ammunition, fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms.

At the time of the search, Wilson was under supervised release following his November 10, 2021 guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

After an arrest warrant was issued, officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Northern Missouri Drug Taskforce, and Kahoka Police Department returned to Wilson’s residence. They discovered 12 firearms concealed in a false ceiling and additional evidence including a safe containing $4,394 cash, over 240 grams of methamphetamine, more psilocybin mushrooms, and another 15 guns. Authorities noted that Wilson’s home was located just over 200 feet from school property.

“The U.S. Probation Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Northern Missouri Drug Taskforce and the Kahoka Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nauman Wadalawala prosecuted the case.”
