Missouri women’s basketball announced on May 3 the signing of redshirt senior guard Tanyuel Welch, who is transferring from Arizona. Head coach Kellie Harper said Welch brings experience and maturity to the team.
Welch averaged 8.7 points and led Arizona with 5.2 rebounds per game last season. She had eleven games scoring in double figures, including a streak of six consecutive games with at least ten points. “Tanny brings us great Power 4 experience and maturity,” Harper said. “I’m excited about her ability to create off the dribble and rebound at a high level. We’re thrilled to complete our roster with her defensive mindset and are excited to get to work!”
During her most recent season, Welch started nineteen games and played in twenty-eight total contests for the Wildcats. Her top performance was a nineteen-point, nine-rebound effort against Texas Tech, which was ranked No. 21 at the time.
Welch also recorded two double-doubles last season: she scored eighteen points with ten rebounds against Chicago State on December 15, and thirteen points with thirteen rebounds against Brigham Young University on January 6. She collected ten or more rebounds in three different games throughout the year.
Before joining Arizona, Welch played three seasons at Memphis where she began her college career. As a redshirt sophomore there, she appeared in all twenty-nine games—starting twenty-four—and averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
Welch is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana where she was a Miss Indiana Basketball Candidate in 2022 and earned All-State First Team honors while playing for North Central High School.
