Missouri track and field athletes won both the men’s and women’s 800 meter races on April 17 at the Big Red Classic, held at Bob Devaney Sports Complex in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The results highlight strong performances by Missouri runners and throwers as they opened competition. Brianna Lee finished first in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:13.04, followed closely by Morgan Yeomans in second place at 2:13.49. In the men’s event, Joseph Bariola took first place with a time of 1:55.91 during his debut in the distance, while River Hardman secured second place with a finish of 1:56.02.
Other notable finishes included Robert Hines taking second in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.60 seconds. In field events, Sam Innes led Missouri’s hammer throw group by placing second with a mark of 68.95 meters (226-2). Garik Pozecki achieved a personal best to finish tenth (62.02m), while Clayton Kamp also set a personal record for seventeenth place (58.19m).
On the women’s side, Petra Gombas placed seventh in hammer throw with her own personal best of 58.06 meters (190-6), joined by Reagan Kimrey who was ninth at 55.29 meters (181-4). In javelin, Valentina Barrios earned third place for Missouri at 55.45 meters (181-11) and Skylar Ciccolini finished fourth with a mark of 51.91 meters (170-3).
At another meet on Friday—the Bryan Clay Invitational—Kobi Walker finished fourth in his heat of the men’s 5000 meter race clocking in at 15:58.01, while Suzy Lecoutre came thirteenth overall among women competitors.
The Tigers are scheduled to return to Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday for final day events beginning at one o’clock.
