Missouri State women’s golf in eighth after first round of CUSA Championship

The Missouri State women’s golf team finished the first round of the Energy Transfer Conference USA Championship in eighth place, according to an April 20 update. The tournament is being held at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas.

This marks Missouri State’s debut appearance in the Conference USA Tournament. The Bears posted a team score of 299 on Monday and are only four strokes behind third place in what is described as a closely contested field.

Western Kentucky leads after carding a score of 288, followed by Sam Houston with 292 and Florida International with 295. Middle Tennessee and Jacksonville State are tied at 296, while New Mexico State and Delaware each recorded scores of 298, just ahead of Missouri State. Kennesaw State (303) and UTEP (314) round out the standings.

Junior Coyee Zhang led Missouri State with an even-par round of 72 on the Fazio Course, tying her for sixth individually and placing her two shots off the lead. Senior Kiser Pannier shot a 74 to tie for sixteenth place. Junior Kyleigh Pfitzner finished with a score of 76 (tied for twenty-seventh), while junior Tierney Baumstark and freshman Chloe Bolte each recorded rounds of 77 to tie for thirtieth.

Second-round play is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning at 8:30.

Friday night’s baseball game between Mizzou and Vanderbilt was suspended due to weather while tied late in extra innings. The Tigers rallied from behind but will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for resolution.
