Missouri State softball defeats New Mexico State to claim series win

Missouri State University’s softball team defeated New Mexico State by a score of 3-1 on May 1 to secure a series victory at Killian Stadium.

The win was led by freshman pitcher Emily Koranda, who allowed just one run on one hit in a complete game performance. Koranda struck out five batters, surpassing the 100-strikeout mark for the season, and issued only two walks during the game.

New Mexico State scored first with a solo home run in the opening inning, but Missouri State responded in the third. Riley Baber singled before Kayla Ulrich hit her sixth home run of the season, giving Missouri State a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, Ulrich doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Alexis Perales to extend the lead to 3-1.

Koranda retired the last fourteen batters she faced, helping secure Missouri State’s victory. Ulrich finished with three hits including a double and a home run. Perales and Emily Chadwick also recorded multiple hits for Missouri State. The team struck out twice and left nine runners on base over the course of the game.

Missouri State is scheduled to play its final game of the season against New Mexico State on May 2 at Killian Stadium.

Friday night’s baseball game between Mizzou and Vanderbilt was suspended due to weather while tied late in extra innings. The Tigers rallied from behind but will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for resolution.
