Missouri State completes first round at Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship

Missouri State University Bears Golf completed the opening day of its first-ever Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship on Apr. 27, with Jonathan Jordan leading the team by shooting a one-under-par 71. Jordan, a sophomore from Rolla, Missouri, made six birdies on the par-72, 6,969-yard Texarkana Country Club course and is tied for 12th place in the individual standings after the first round.

The team’s total score was 304, placing them in 11th position among competitors with two rounds remaining. UTEP and New Mexico State are currently tied for the lead after both teams posted scores of nine-under-par 279. Liberty follows with a score of 284, Kennesaw State at 285, and Western Kentucky at 287. Sam Houston sits in sixth place with a score of 290.

Other Missouri State players’ scores include senior Christian Rischer with a round of 76 (46th overall), junior Owen Swearingen with a score of 78, freshman Noah Naugle carding a 79, and freshman Pedro Gallegos finishing at 81.

The championship marks Missouri State’s debut appearance in Conference USA men’s golf competition. The event continues over two more rounds as teams compete for top honors.

Second-round play is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning, with Missouri State set to start at 8:45 a.m.

Friday night’s baseball game between Mizzou and Vanderbilt was suspended due to weather while tied late in extra innings. The Tigers rallied from behind but will have to wait until Saturday afternoon for resolution.
