Missouri State University’s baseball game against Louisiana Tech was suspended on April 24 due to lightning near J.C. Love Field on the Louisiana Tech campus, with the Bulldogs leading 8-2 in the seventh inning. The game is scheduled to resume at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by the regularly scheduled Saturday matchup.
The suspension came as a result of weather conditions that made it unsafe for players and spectators. At the time of interruption, Missouri State trailed after Louisiana Tech scored six runs in the first inning, which included four doubles and a triple. The Bulldogs added a solo home run in the second inning to increase their lead.
Missouri State responded with a sacrifice fly by Curry Sutherland in the fourth inning after Caden Bogenpohl’s leadoff double and advancement on a wild pitch. Carter Bergman contributed with his twelfth home run of the season in the fifth inning, narrowing the deficit to 7-2.
Louisiana Tech extended its lead with two-out singles around a walk in the sixth inning, marking their first hits since early in the game and pushing their advantage to 8-2. Freshman pitcher Adyn Schell from Missouri State delivered his longest relief outing yet, allowing only one home run during three innings pitched.
Bryce Cermenelli continued his impressive performance for Missouri State by extending his hitting streak to 22 games with a single in the third inning. When play resumes, there will be two outs in the top of the seventh with Bergman at bat and an even count.
